Easier Trip Planning for Ontario Snowmobilers

From a Press Release just received from the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs, trip planning and navigation around Ontario just got easier.

New Website:
The OFSC’s new public website is totally revamped for this season with a new look, improved navigation and better information (www.ofsc.on.ca).

Interactive Trail Guide:
The new Interactive Trail Guide features the most accurate and up to date display of the entire 34,000--‐kilometre OFSC trail network available anywhere. As it becomes fully integrated and functional this season, OFSC snowmobilers will be able to plan their
rides, check for in--‐season re--‐routes and detours, and view the latest, colour--‐coded trail status updates online.

iSnowMobile:
OFSC snowmobilers can check trail status from their iPhones by downloading the entire OFSC
trail network directly from the Interactive Guide with the OFSC’s new iSnowMobile app (available at www.apple.com/iphone for $2.99).

Routable GPS:
Snowmobilers who ride with their Garmin, Magellan or Lowrance units can now purchase routable or non--‐routable versions of the OFSC provincial trail system on a base map that also
includes detailed lakes, rivers, roads, etc.

Snow in Algonquin Park

We drove through Algonquin park to visit our daughter Suzanne in Ottawa. Algonquin Park got enough snow on Friday that they had to plow and sand HWY 60.

Power Outage Coverage with A Channel News

Trina Maus from A Channel News was at Beauview today to see the wind damage first hand and get an update from Ontario Hydro.

Power went off due to a fallen tree during high winds, this morning. Power is to be restored by the end of the day.

Last Boat out of the lake

I took our motor boat into the marina for winter service and storage. Lucky for me that it's warm today. I got soaked from the wind and the spray as I went up the lake.

I didn't see any other boats on the lake or at docks as I passed by. Just after I got to the marina a storm front passed over Lake of Bays. Twice lucky that I didn't get caught in the rain.

For our guests safety, we are usually one of the first with their boat on the lake (Mid April this year) and the last to come ashore.

All our canoes, kayaks and peddleboats have been put away for the winter too.

Location, Location Location

Beauview has a number of new road signs put up in the last month. There's the new road sign at our entrance by Dallas Clarke, Huntsville and two new signs at the intersection of HWY 60 and Muskoka Rd. 9 (South Portage Rd.)

We also have been set up correctly on Google maps and in GPS devices.

So no matter whether you use paper or electronic directions, you'll be able to find Beauview!

New Lower Fall Rates

From October 12 - December 20, 2010
- Any 1 or 2 bedroom cottage with a personal hot tub is $149/night per cottage (not per person) plus HST with a 2 night minimum stay

CORPORATE SPECIAL (if you are working in the area on Business) Monday to Thursday - $100/night per cottage, with a 2 night minimum stay plus taxes.

Happy Thanksgiving - What did people do?

This has been a glorious Thanksgiving long weekend at Beauview with Sunny weather each day. We have guests from the U.S. and guests from Scotland. Many are young families. I'm glad I left all the toys out for them to play with!

What did people do?

One man went swimming. Kids played in the playgrounds, made sand castles. Played frizbee. Badminton. A number have gone out on the water, canoeing or out in the row boat. One family had a campfire down by the lake.

One family went to the Muskoka Heritage Place to ride the Train and see the Pioneer Village. Saturday was the last day for train rides this year. The Village will be open for Halloween.

There's still lots of leaves to look at too.

Where's Waldo, ... the chipmunk?

Waldo the chipmunk, was harassing me while I was trying to work this afternoon. He'd come up close and sniff. Then as soon as I went to get the camera, he went hiding in the leaves.

I finally got a picture of him.

Then the chickadees starting doing the same thing! ... but they wouldn't stay in one place.

Saturday Screams on Lake of Bays

Screams of "OHHH that's CCCOLD!" went across the lake on Saturday afternoon. Thank goodness for hot tubs. A couple decided to get "refreshed" with a dip in the lake and then ran back to their personal hot tub to get warmed up. Envigorating!

I stood by in case I had to call 911 but I wasn't needed.

Baysville has a new Diner

The 4 Corners Diner opened this week in Baysville. It's in the same building that Kokkas Korners, Sisters Bistro and others were for many years.

Breakfast until 11am. Lunch, and many different entrees for dinner.

My First Algonquin Male Moose

Starting to see Fall Colours

Here's a tree that's right out our window near the lake at Beauview. It is usually one of the first maples to turn colour. You can see some fall colour changes sporadically throughout our area.

Water Trampoline and the Iceberg Waterslide

The Iceberg Waterslide and the Water trampoline were put away for the winter today.
My brother Rick came over to help.
I was hoping not to get wet by using the motor boat but my brother came in his shorts so I couldn't disappoint him! I let him get wet and nice slimy under the water trampoline to unhook it from the anchor. He 's not stupid. (and he must have heard me laughing) He made me get under the iceberg and get slimy too!

I wanted to share the very scientific way we get the air out of them before they get rolled up and put away. We opened the air valves and jumped on them spread eagle, over and over again. No kids around to help, so we just had to do this ourselves!

Artist in Residence

We have a new neighbour. Ron Murdoch the Artist, has bought a home on Brunel Road just around the corner from Beauview. (and a few doors down the road from Kevin's Chainsaw Wood Carvings.) There, you will find his Sprucebog Studio.
