New Water Toy for Summer 2010

We just purchased a new water toy that will float beside our water trampoline. It's a 6 foot high iceberg! You can climb up on 3 sides and slide down the wedge. Should be great fun for the children!

Moose Hunting in March

Everyone can find moose in Muskoka at anytime of the year. At the Muskoka Wildlife Centre they have two moose - named Chocolate and Lucky. This is a picture of Lucky that I took today.

At the Meet the Creature session, we got to see and learn about a barn owl (Silo), a snapping turtle (sam) and a groundhog (Clover)

A Sure Sign of Spring...

The ice huts are coming off the lake... a sure sign that Spring is not far away. The lake "returns" on about the third week of April.

Spring fishing is great on Lake of Bays for lake trout and speckled trout just after the ice goes.

Deer Hunting in March

It was a bright sunny day so I went deer hunting and shot a lot of deer ... with my camera!

You can be assured of seeing deer when you drive down Fox Point Road on the other side of Lake of Bays.
Some people still feed the deer and my friend Brian from Bondi Village Cottage Resort told me where to look!

Hockey is OUR GAME

Here's a family that has been staying with us over the years in the Summer and in the Winter. They come to play hockey on the lake in the Winter.

See the time warp pictures.
The boys have grown a little bigger but Vic, the dad still wears No 77 !
Does Vic like the hockey player Ray Bourque - of the Boston Bruins and Colorado Avalanche or is it Phil Esposito or ... someone else?.

Walk on Water

It's risky. It's dangerous. We tell our guests to "use at their own risk". You can NEVER say that the ice is SAFE
but... I took a walk on our lake yesterday.

There's lots of snowmobile tracks. Many ice huts. I have even seen a pick up truck driving around on the ice. (The CAA won't come and rescue you if you get stuck)

Off in the distance near Rock island (the kids call it "bird poop" island because of all the cormorant birds that nest there) out by Clovelly Point, there's a small village of ice huts. Must be good trout fishing there!

Some of the neighbours' docks have open water around them. As I walked, there's cracks and water spots that looked like they just had frozen over.

BUT I made it out to Clovelly Point and didn't get wet!

How many people from the city can say they have ever had a "walk on water" experience?!

BTW My friend Brian came across the lake on his snowmobile and said that there are pressure cracks and open water hazzards in the "usual" places. ( Brian knows. He's has been on this lake for over 40 years)

I still won't take the chance with my ATV on the lake.

Snowmobilers - Steve and Stephanie

This is Steve and Stephanie's fourth year coming to Beauview in the Winter.
They took their sleds around Bracebridge on Saturday and into the Dwight area on Sunday.
After the trail ride there's a relaxing soak in the cottage's personal hot tub on the deck.
