Wakeboarding behind the Steamship Segwun !?

Gravenhurst, Ontario the home of the Royal Mail Steamship the Segwun, was recently visited by Rick Mercer from CBC Television. You get a tour of the ship, some great scenery and you can see Rick trying to wakeboard behind the Segwun. What a hoot!
Gravenhurst is about 30 minutes south of Beauview just off HWY 11. The steamship operates May to October.

Night Visit from a Deer

The Birds were strutting their Stuff

Two or three chickadees are madly gathering food this afternoon. One of them hops right up to me.

Usually they are gone before I can focus the camera but today they were "strutting their stuff!".

Don't Believe the Weatherman!

It's Saturday afternoon. The weather forecast says cloudy and rain until next Wednesday. No sun anytime soon. How depressing!

But look out our window >> the sun has come to the rescue! We can go outside.

Just after I filmed this video clip, a loon came swimming by. Very special! If we believed the weather forecast, we'd be watching reruns on TV and not enjoying the day.

I shovelled Snow today!

First snowfall. This will make all the snowmobilers envious! We got 4 cm of wet wet snow today. The plows were out for the first time on some of the roadways. It will be all gone again before the weekend so I took this photo to prove it.

The Last Days of Boating

We have been blessed with another sunny weekend. Guests went to Algonquin park, or went canoeing and peddleboating on our lake. The hot tubs were welcome after some outside adventures. And a number of cottagers met around the campfire at night.

Dancing Leaves

We had one of the best Thanksgiving weekends in years. Lots of fall colours to see, warm weather, sunshine.

Now that the weekend is over, the leaves are dancing off the trees. (I have already started to pick up the leaves ... but you wouldn't know it!)

First Time Kayakers on Thanksgiving Weekend

This is Aidan and Payton who both mastered the kayak while staying at Beauview this weekend with their family. It was summer - like weather all weekend. Their family went in swimming too! (no they didn't capsize, they went in on purpose!)

The Chipmunks are Back!

Our guests in the Summer noticed that there wasn't many chipmunks around. I'm not sure why. These furry little guys are not tame but close to it. They will come up close to people if you are patient and not threatening. Very entertaining to watch! The stripe pattern on their back keeps them apart from squirrels, so you can tell the difference. Squirrels are not as friendly.

This time of year, there's lots of acorns to feed on. The chipmunk hibernates for the winter so now is the time to store up a large food supply for winter.

Giant Leaf Bagger

Lots of beautiful leaves and some are starting to fall.

Now Gord brings out his giant leaf bag contraption to collect them and mulch them up.

For you engineers, he's added a plastic bag from a mattress with some strategically placed vent holes so it doesn't fly off, attached to the chute from the rear bagger.

A Channel Morning TV Show

Accu Window Weather for Ontario

As you can see from my recent BLOG entries, it gets very upsetting to us when the we are experiencing beautiful weather and yet the weather reports show something completely different.

People in Ontario rely on the weather reports as they plan their day or their weekend recreation.

There have been many times in the last year when the weather report has said rain and cloudy when we are experiencing sunshine and blue skies. See my previous BLOG videos as examples.

To let people see what the weather is actually like at a particular location in Ontario, a new website has been created http://www.accu-window-weather.com/

Like the name implies, it does weather forecasting the old fashioned way - by looking out the window! In this case, you are invited to look out the window of various places throughout Ontario using their webcam.

Our good friend Brian Tapley from Bondi Village, was flying around Lake of Bays this week in his piper cub and took these marvellous shots of Beauview from the air. Look at all the colourful trees!
