Water Toys on the Water

Just like everything else this year, the Water Trampoline and the New 6 feet high ROCK waterslide and climbing walls have been put in the water 3 weeks early.
Gord tried to get to the top of the Rock (he calls it a floating Ice cube) but couldn't. Our niece Leanne tried and failed. She says she doesn't have much upper body strength. It's not as easy as it looks.

The water temperature today was over 70 degrees F or 23 degrees C. Another great Summer day in May!

The Bugs won't Bother you at Beauview

You don't need to worry about black flies or mosquitoes when you are outside. A fellow resort owner told us about this new insect repellant that comes in the form of a 24-36 hour patch that you wear on your skin. It's called the Insect Defend Patch. Gord tried it out on the May long weekend and the Memorial day weekend and it seems to work.

We have given it to some of guests to try and there have been no complaints about bugs.

What we like about it is that its just vitamin B1 and No Deet so it safe for adults and children. Nancy even checked with Ontario TeleHealth to see if the doctors had any problems reported and there were none.

We'll have some patches on hand for our guests to try. You can get them at Home Hardware, WalMart, Shoppers Drug Mart, and a host of other places.

For more information, see their website: http://www.insectdefendpatch.com/

First Time Experiences at Beauview

Last week, Gord taught a guest how to light a fire. He'd been to campfires but someone else always took care of it.
This weekend, we have had the pleasure of getting 3 generations of one family into a paddleboat for the first time. Grandma, Grandpa, Mom and Dad and two children. The two children also went in kayaks for the first time. And ... No one got wet!

It's great to see the smiles on their faces.

Campfires - Part of going to the cottage

With just 6 cottages, we have a central campfire area down by the water. We provide firewood, marshmallow sticks and some paper and a lighter. Gord teaches people how to lay and light a fire so they can experience it for themselves. He was taught by his scoutmaster years ago and passes on this knowledge. We find that many people have never lit a fire before.

Here's the result!

Sitting around the fire at the end of the day. Sharing stories about how your day went or meeting others. A great experience you don't get in a big resort!

Bear Sighting on Lake of Bays

Today was our first bear sighting on Lake of Bays. This is Lily the Bear with her friends in a paddleboat at Beauview on Lake of Bays. They wanted to make sure that Lily was safe so she got to wear her own life preserver too.

Happy Birthday Lady Josephine

Jo and her sisters have been coming to Beauview since well before Nancy and I became owners.

They told us the first time was 27 years ago when Jo and Lindsay, two of the sisters, came with 5 kids and stayed in the 3 bedroom cottage. Julie and Jo came with their families for many years in the summer and winter, after we became owners in the 1990's.

This weekend is a celebration of sister Jo's birthday. Lindsay came from Britsh Columbia to be here. Thanks for sharing your time with us.

Mother Nature Gets PAYBACK

The ice went out 3 weeks early. We wore shorts and T shirts in April. The motor came out of storage. Even did some painting and got the yard raked. But everything was dry. There were extreme fire bans - you couldn't even roast a marshmallow! The lake water level was down low.

In the last week or two, we've had rain and then yesterday a little bit of snow! North Bay got 15 cms. We just got a dusting.

Not to worry. No more snow in the weather forecast. The grass is greening up and the leaves are coming out on the trees.

Three weeks of warm dry weather in April. You just know you'll pay for it. Mother Nature keeps everything in balance.
