High Speed Internet at the Cottage - No Way!

This is the reaction we get from some people when we say we have high speed wireless internet available at Beauview.
>>> Why would you want high speed internet at the cottage when you are on holidays? (other than to do work!)

In fact, for those who bring their laptop computers, there's lots of uses to enhance their holiday experience.

The first use is getting up to the minute weather. Our weather has been very changeable this Summer. When planning their day, our guests have logged on to the Environment canada website for the latest weather forecast and also the radar website which is updated every 10 minutes! On the radar website, you can see what the weather pattern has been over the last hour to see whats coming our way.

Some guests have looked at the Algonquin Park website before heading off on a hike. Others have visited the Algonquin Theatre and Huntsville Festival of the Arts websites looking for what's on in area entertainment.

Guests have logged onto the Baysville marina website to see what boat rentals are available and the rates.
There's Santas Village and Sportsland and the new Eaglecrest Aerial Park - The Ultimate Treetop Adventure.websites. Both are closeby in Bracebridge

Others have kept in touch with family and friends through Email and MSN messenger.... even to check up on how their dog or cat is doing while they are away.

These are just a few of the uses.

And MOST IMPORTANT - If you get an email message from your work place - DON'T answer it!

Matthew and Catherine First Time Fishing

Matthew and Catherine from England, are fishing off the long dock at Beauview. This is Matthew's first time fishing and he caught a fish right away. Now he's so intent about catching another fish that he won't look away from the bobber on the fishing line. Not even for just a second to talk to me on camera!
They have a cheering section of 4 adults behind me waiting for the BIG fish.

Nature Sighting: Tree People Among Us

While Walter and Sue were taking a walk yesterday, they encountered a tree person on Price's Point Road.

Freddie the Frog is really a Toad!

They know he's really a toad but they like the name.

Balancing Act on the Water

Butter Tarts at the Baysville Bakery

Mid afternoon on Thursday, our parking lot had cleared out. I wondered where everyone went.? Within the hour, the cars had returned so I walked around to see what was happening.

On the cottage decks, people were enjoying freshly baked butter tarts from the local bakery in Baysville. The butter tarts had just come out of the oven. They had timed their visit just right! (And they didn't want me to take their picture with buttertart all over their faces!)

Erinn catches her BIGGEST FISH ever!

Erinn and her brother Jerad, came to show me the BIG Bass fish that Erinn caught. All the other kids and even some of the adults were excited too. There was a crowd all around this fish taking lots of pictures.

This is a special memory for her. Its the Biggest Fish she's ever caught!

BINGO is not a game just for OLD People!

We play BINGO with our guests twice a week under our waterfront shelter. Nancy and I have recently graduated from the Fern School of BINGO (At Fern Resort, they play BINGO 3 times a day, everyday!)

Adults and children are welcome. It's relaxed play. No dabbers allowed - we use shutter cards.

Nancy is on the lookout for BINGO prizes throughout the year.

There are prizes for all ages and everyone gets a prize whether they yell BINGO ! or not.

Don't sleep in - You'll miss the Deer

Not that early this morning, at around 8 AM. I was walking out the door to get the newspapers. On the edge of our driveway, I saw some bushes move so I stopped. There was a deer eating tree leaves, who then as I was watching, went across to eat some of the wildflowers Nancy and Suzanne planted.

I walked up very close to him before he ran off.

Our Oldest Guest

Ada and her daughter Anne and Anne's husband Ken, have been coming to Beauview for 13 years. Ada is our oldest guest in 2008. I can't tell you her age because you don't tell a lady's age!

She always has a smile on her face.

Last One Standing

This is a game that you play on the water trampoline. The object is to run and jump around as fast as you can to make everyone else dizzy to lose their balance. The last one standing is the winner. In this video, its hard to tell who wins because everyone falls into the lake!

An afternoon on the water with family. With a little imagination - a paddle boat turns into a pirate ship and the water trampoline becomes a fort.

Don't Believe the Weatherman!

Seeing is believing! Here's a video taken this morning of the Beauview waterfront just before 10 Am.
Gord is showing how wrong the weather forecasting is this Summer. On the 7:30am news this morning on Barrie A Channel, the broadcaster said "there will be no sun in Muskoka today."

The weather forecasts have been very negative this summer. The temperatures get hotter than they say they will get and we get sun, when the forecast says rain!

Gord thinks its because they are jealous - we are on holidays and they aren't!

Garden Pros Arrive

Sandra and Rick (Sandra is the Gardening Pro and Rick is the grunt labour) came to day to revitalize our gardens. They spent most of the day digging, weeding, moving, planting and replanting. They brought deer resistant, drought resistant, easy to care for plants.

Amazing Rainbow

Tonight is the night for our welcome BBQ for our weekly guests. Though it sprinkled on and off today, there was no rain during our get together until the end.

Then it poured! But after that we were rewarded with a beautiful rainbow that went from one end of our bay to the other. I couldn't fit it all into one photo.
