The Summer Water Toys are Launched!

The Water trampoline, Swim Raft, canoes, paddleboats are all ready to go.

High Speed Internet on Beauview Bay , Lake of Bays

We are not alone!!

Michel from MCCSolutions just installed an antenna tower to provide High Speed Internet service to all of Beauview Bay. This antenna will cover a part of Lake of Bays that is unserviced, (too many rocks in the way) unless you have a satellite dish.

We have had High speed internet for two years. What a difference from dial up!

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced the 2010 G8 Summit will be held at the Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, Ontario. It will be the fifth G8 Summit hosted by Canada since the country joined the prestigious international organization in 1976.

The Prime Minister was joined at the announcement by Tony Clement, Canada’s Health Minister and Member of Parliament for Parry Sound-Muskoka.“Huntsville is a jewel in the Canadian Shield and an ideal location for this gathering of world leaders,” said Prime Minister Harper. “Our international guests will be charmed by the uniquely Canadian beauty of the region and by the warm hospitality of Muskokans.”

The Prime Minister emphasized the Summit will be a tremendous opportunity to promote Canada’s values and interests on the world stage; to advocate for open markets and free trade; to insist on truly global action against global warming; and to champion freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.

Prime Minister Harper added that the international media attending the Summit would introduce millions of potential tourists to the many attractions of Ontario cottage country.“The 2010 G8 Summit will provide short and long-term economic benefits for the region and the province, and it will be an exceptional opportunity for Canada to advance its values and interests on the world stage,” Prime Minister Harper concluded.

Muskoka Triathlon 2008

The Muskoka Triathlon 2008 was held in Huntsville this weekend. We had a number of

Triathletes staying with us.

As you can see, the bike route goes right past our property.

The bike route for the Muskoka Ironman coming in September 2008 starts at Deerhurst and also goes right past our driveway.

We are catching More Fish than We Can Keep!

This is no fish story! Al and the boys come every year to fish for Lake Trout on Lake of Bays.

They are out at sun up each morning. There are so many fish in the lake that they pick only the mid size ones for their fish fry. The big ones and the little ones are put back in the lake.

Our Ontario U. K. Connection

We have had several couples recently stay with us that are from the United Kingdom.

One couple from Devon said that Air Transat has direct flights from Exeter, U. K. to Toronto, Canada each week. It is much closer for them to go to Exeter than Heathrow airport and much less expensive with no expensive overnight stay in an airport hotel.

They took in the sights of Niagara Falls, Toronto and then came to the country to stay with us at Beauview.

They went canoeing, fishing, hiking in Algonquin Park, golfing, 30,000 Island Boat tour, saw a moose and deer and black squirrels! Lots to do.

Grace and Speed - Muskoka Heritage Boats

What is there to do on a rainy afternoon?

I visited the Muskoka Boat and Heritage Centre - Grace and Speed in Gravenhurst today.

It displays the history of Muskoka's steamships, Muskoka's wooden boats and Muskoka's grand hotels

It's got one of the only in-water exhibits of wooden boats that I know of.

A Good Start to Summer

The May Long weekend is the unofficial start of Summer. We had a german couple stay with us this week as they were passing through. They came for one night and ended up staying for four nights! They went canoeing on our lake and hiked in Algonquin park.... and took lots of pictures.

The Weather forecast says rain all day, today and yet as I'm writing this, there's sunshine coming in my window! You can't always believe the weather report. And if you did, you never go outside!

Deer come to paint the cottages

Two or three deer have come to visit a number of times when I have been outside this past week. I'm either painting or putting out lawn furniture. When I turn around - there they are!

Once I see them and they see me, they are off again. I'll have to keep my camera with me at all times. - even when I'm painting.

I've also seen a hawk, blue jays, robins, and loons.

The canoes, and paddelboats are ready to use. The water is around 50 degrees - COLD ! - so you don't want to fall in.

Wildlife Sightings - deer, turkeys, loons, and a fox

During my walks this week, I saw three deer crossing the road from the neighbour's property. Yesterday while travelling to Dorset on HWY 117, I saw two wild turkeys, and later on the way back I saw a fox.
Last night at the lake, I heard two loons calling and saw them fly overhead.

I've seen and heard geese too... but they don't count!

The Lake has returned -The Ice has left

Pretty much the same time each year the ice melts away and "leaves". Today is that day.

The lake has returned after being frozen for 4 months. It s hard to believe that 3 weeks ago, people were driving their pick up trucks on our bay to go ice fishing!

Now is a great time for Spring fishing for Trout. The lake is still freezing cold so the trout can be caught close to the surface in 15 - 20 feet of water.

First Campfire of the Year

We had our first campfire of the year tonight. A young family staying with us this weekend asked to have a fire for their 3 year old boy. His first campfire! We all helped set it up and dad did the honours to light it on fire.

With the warm weather this week, most of the snow has melted. The children's playground reappeared on Thursday. I set out some sand toys to play with too. The children are having a wonderful time.

Deer Caught on Video in April

When people ask about what is there to do at this time of year, I tell them about seeing nature up close. Before the leaves are back on the trees and while the snow is melting, is a perfect time to see wildlife and birds without the obstructions and without scaring them away.
