A Baysville Landmark is Destoyed by Fire

It was a sad day in Baysville today. Overnight the Lincoln Lodge building, in downtown Baysville, across from the dam, caught fire after midnight. The fire crews came quickly but it didn't take long to destroy the old building. It had been the recent home of Wendigo's Bar and Grill Restaurant who had just done some major renovations. Thank goodness, no one was hurt by the fire.
Here's the story as written by the local newspaper - the Huntsville Forester
A devastating blaze destroyed a historic lodge and landmark in the Baysville community early Wednesday morning.
Lake of Bays fire crews responded to the fire at Lincoln Lodge, which housed Wendigo Bar and Grill, at about 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 10, said Huntsville Lake of Bays fire chief Steve Hernen.
“It was heavily involved when they (the first crews) arrived,” said Hernen.

The fire crew called for backup and both Huntsville and Port Cunnington fire departments responded.

In total, it took 45 firefighters until about 3:30 a.m. to get the blaze under control, said Hernen.
No one was in the building at the time of the blaze and no injuries were reported, said Hernen.
The building housed one resident in the third floor apartment, a co-owner of the building, but he was away on a fishing trip, said George Drennan of Bay Street Boys Inc., one of the three co-owners.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, Hernen indicated.
