This turtle was seen just behind one of our cottages at Beauview. He didn't want to move for an hour. But he was in a traffic zone and we were worried that he'd get run over. Finally we coaxed him into a box and put him near our creek.

Common snapping turtle. It wouldn't bother anyone if not provoked. At this time of year, females leave the water looking for nesting sites. They're frequently killed on roads, and the best thing to do is to take them across in the direction they were headed.
You have to be careful handling snappers, for obvious reasons.
